Earth Friendly Friday: Repurposing Existing Containers

I started my project looking for some kind of box, bag, or container to alter. Then, I looked for anything that I could use for embellishments. I found orange ribbon that had previously adorned a bottle, and I cut the zipper from its fabric to end up with both orange and black "ribbon".

Enchanted was perfect for this project! I really love the fantastic oranges, blacks and creams. Perfect for planning ahead for my grandmas birthday, which just happens to be Halloween.
I gathered my materials. Both useful and decorative.

I started with this container. It's been kicking around my scrap area for three years. It's held pens, markers, wire, all kinds of stuff.
First thing to tackle... Get that sticker off the container. I used my adhesive remover and worked at removing it. It does take awhile, and I had to rip off the sticker, then rub off the paper leftovers, then wipe away the adhesive. Don't give up!
While this pumpkin is cute, it doesn't work with my plan... So, I inked the sticker so that I could cover it easily with my lovely Authentique paper in Haunted. Then I added a super neat diecut pumpkin (also Haunted) that I used 3L dimensional adhesives, and both Gray Flannel and GoldenGlitz inks to make it pop. Added a Maya Road Trinket Pin, and it's perfect!
Using dimensional adhesive is such a great way to make embellishments! I suggest that you try.
For the can itself, I measured the paper (in Glowing) so that it fit inside the can. I actually tried to have it fit the outside, but it was just shy. I didn't want to try to glue it down out and have the paper peel away, so I put it on the inside instead. I just used one Glue Dot to make the paper stay in place. When I returned the handle, it poked two additional holes to help position the paper.
Add the Details cardstock stickers, a Petaloo flower, my found ribbons, and a little gold wire, and voila! New gift packaging!
I challenge you to find something that you have floating around, and repurpose it into something beautiful. Happy Earth Friendly Friday! ~Heather
