As soon as I saw the Black Beaded Peonies, I knew what I wanted to make. I had previously found a cute wooden skull at my local craft store knowing that I was going to make a Calavera (skull) for the Day of the Dead. One of my co-workers teaches Spanish, and her students make altars for the Día de los Muertos / Day of the Dead celebration at our local museum. I plan on gifting this to her for the celebration this year.
I decided early on that my calavera was a girl, so I could use even more flowers on her. I started the entire process by adhering the back of the Spellbound paper to the thin wood with spray adhesive. I really enjoyed the light color, and knew that it would look the closest to the color of a skull. I then used a craft knife to cut around it all.
Where the holes in the face were, I just adhered peices of paper behind so they would peek out (Bewitched and Charmed). The eyes also needed somewhere to hold the gorgeous Petaloo Black Beaded Peonies.
I also handcut the flowers and cheekbones, then used a white pen to add some more interest.
I had the most fun with the hair. I used my 3L Dodz to stick all of the Orange Velvet Hydrangeas and a few leaves to the top of her head like hair. To make her even more feminine I added a cute Black Velet Hydrangea as an accent.
The last details were the cute little spider and the iRock gem designs. I couldn't resist the spider Dazzler (even though I'm not a fan in real life!) Then I used the Memento Ink in Gray Flannel around her head, nose and mouth.
Products Used:
Authentique: Enchanted Collection: Spellbound, Bewitched, Charmed
Petaloo: Orange Velvet Hydrangeas, Black Beaded Peonies, Black Velvet Hydrangeas
Other Products: Purple iRock gems, Memento Ink Gray Flannel, Aleene's Fast Grab Tacky Spray glue

I am so excited to share my mini album with you today
It is is one of my favorite projects in a LONG time!
I absolutely LOVE Petaloo, Halloween and Authentique
so you can imagine how much fun I had making it.
The Enchanted patterns and the amazing cardstock stickers
really do make things like this come together so easily....
add some gorgeous flowers and sparkly spiders and it's a match made in heaven!!
I decided to break out my cuttlebug and a great sizzix die to create the base of this album,
using black cardstock as my base to make it just a bit sturdier.
using black cardstock as my base to make it just a bit sturdier.
Here's a look at the finished product
This orange herringbone pattern is swoon worthy if you ask me :)
Here's a peek at the inside pages,
Isn't this ghost the cutest!?! He did come white but I wanted him to match the tone of the patterned paper so I used my Tim Holtz Distress stain in Vintage paper and just distressed him a bit...worked like a charm!
and the big finish..the last page in the album!
Products Used:
Authentique Paper: Enchanted Paper Collection, Cardstock Stickers and Elements Stickers
Ink: Imagine Crafts, and Ranger

ReplyDeleteWOW! Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, it did. What a fun mini with a mummy that any mummy could love and the skull. Oh My! those wonderful flower eyes and hair. Love it. It is fantastic and I'm so glad it wasn't around for my 40th birthday or my sister would have scrap lifted this idea and used it as part of the decorations for the "Loss of Youth Wake" she threw for family and friends. Great Job!

ReplyDeleteDeniseB
Great projects. The day of the dead skull is cute lol and the mini album is wonderful. Love seeing different types on minis. Thanks for sharing and the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I have to say both projects are very cute. I just love Authentique Halloween and many other papers and embellishments. The Petaloo goes with the Halloween so darn well. I like that the skeleton is girly and I like those rhinestone swirls on it. The book has the little touches done really well such as the little corner kind of piece on the cover, the circles paper used throughout, and making the mummy look more rustic. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI know Heather's skull is going to become hubby's Halloween card-he's got 4 skull tattoo's-he'll love it. My children are all grown so I have no pictures for Natalie's mini-but I'm thinking it would be perfect for some of my favorite Halloween quotes.Starting off with the from Emily's frame on Monday. It moved me so I keep going back to it.
ReplyDeleteI love the album! The colors and all the embellishments accent the pages that are just waiting to be filled with those Halloween pictures!
ReplyDeleteVery cool mini album. There are so many fun pieces added with the spiders, the flowers etc. Super cute and I love the papers used on it too. I definitely would showcase an album like this in my house. Great job!
ReplyDeleteReally cool project! I love the flowers in her hair! And the flowers in that minibook! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteKatie B.
