Guest Designer: Marcia Dehn-Nix

Hello from Minnesota! My name is Marcia Dehn-Nix from OneScrapAtATime. The past 30 years I have been married to my high school sweetheart and we have 3 kids who are currently all in college! Luckily, the oldest will be graduating in December, YEAH! Since my kids aren't around, I dote on my fur babies; a dog and 3 cats. I did not intend to have 3 cats. I am kind of a stray magnet. It gets cold here and I cannot stand to see cats out and about. I have been scrapping for about 15 years and love all kinds of paper crafting. I have an eclectic style that ranges widely from simple pages to shabby chic. It really depends on the paper and photos and the story I want to tell with them. I am lucky to be able to play with Authentique Paper products on a regular basis in my design team work at ScrapTownLady, an on-line store.

With Halloween behind us, I have some Christmas projects to get you in the mood. I worked with the Tradition collection. The colors in this collection are bright and cheery. Lots of traditional elements yet with a trendy style. Layouts are my favorite, so my first project I made was this...

With Authentique's thicker papers I can distress and use some mixed media and know the paper will hold up well. I added some bricks using molding paste to coordinate with the bricks in my photo. Some gesso keeps the background paper from being too distracting when I want you to see the bricks. Then I used some chalk ink to add a little bit of grey and tan coloring.  I had to fussy cut out some of those fun stockings to hang...

I made a couple of poinsettias too with the pattern papers and added a touch of Inca Gold to give them a festive feel.

I love giving a gift where the recipient exclaims, WOW! You made this! When I saw this drum SVG file, I knew I had to make one for my son. He is a drummer in the North Dakota State University marching band. I filled it with some Christmas candy. It will make an awesome care package while he is studying for finals.

Here's a better look at the drum....

My last project is a Christmas card. I love that the stickers in this collection work great for sentiments on cards.
