Hi everyone, Audrey here, sharing a little holiday ornament project today featuring our adorable Joyous collection along with a fun template from our product partner this week, Kiwi Lane.
I love keeping my eye out for unusual items to alter, and recently I came across this cute wooden mitten ornament at the thrift store. The original paint job and decals didn't go with my decor, but I knew it would be easy to alter and up-cycle using some of my favorite scrappy supplies. With just a bit of paint and a few touches, I now have an adorable ornament to love or to gift. The only tough part now is choosing which.
The first job was giving the mitten a new paint job. And then, since I like things on the shabby side, the edges were lightly sanded and distressed. I added beautiful wired burlap ribbon around the top of the mitten, tied into a big bow and dressed with additional trims and rusty bells.
Next step is adding a festive hang tag and holly leaves to the bow. The holly was made with Kiwi Lane's Christmas Accessory template set. Simply trace the holly onto your favorite patterned paper, and cut them out. I used paper from the 6x6 Bundle here. Then I inked the edges and added some machine stitching down the center of each leaf using bright green thread. To give the leaves a bit of lifelike dimension, fold the lightly along the center stitch line. I then gave my leaves a touch of wintery glamor with mica glitter before tucking them up into the bow.
The hang tag is from the 12x12 Statements Accent sheet. I added a pair of round Details stickers to the center and punched a hole at the top to tie up with string. Quick and easy!
Enjoy!
