I made this lantern with the "luminary" Sizzix die from Tim Holtz, and some SVG Cuts. I really had fun creating this. I just adore this "Anchored" collection, I think I have used every square inch of the collection I've had, and I still want to to create more with it. It's absolutely perfect for any summertime project and the colors and patterns are amazing.
For the windows, I used vellum, and for the top of the lantern, the seagull's wing, and the tops of the surfboards, I painted on some "Clear Rock Candy" crackle paint, then distressed some more. Being seaside means that most everything is chipped, crackle, sand-blown or salted, so I tried to reflect that in my project.
I love the crackled look on the surfboards. Growing up in Ft Lauderdale, and having two brothers that surfed practically every day, (and still do), I love the look of waxed over boards, so I tried to emulate that with clear crackle paint.
I adore the teastained petite blue Dahlia's from Petaloo. They are the perfect shade of color to coordinate with the "Anchored" collection, I simply adore the distressed look to them. The are a wonderful addition to any "Authentique Paper" collection.
Thank you all so much for stopping by today!
I hope I've inspired you to create your own nautical lantern.

ReplyDeleteO wow this is stunning such a beautiful lantin. xxx
ReplyDeleteThe seagull made me laugh. On vacation years ago, my daughter was 2. We stopped in a park alongside a lake for a picnic lunch. A seagull ran across our blanket and stole my daughter's sandwich right out of her hand. Too bad I didn't have a camera ready to capture the look of shock on her face. My husband's face would have been a great shot too.
ReplyDeletewhat a cute project-it made me think of a photo a friend from Australia once posted of a row of cute little bathhouses along the beach!
