Audrey Pettit

Hi everyone, it's Audrey, and today I have a fun tutorial to share with you on how to create a framed shadowbox using our new Authentic Art Prints.

Creating framed home decor with the new Authentic Art Prints is so quick and easy, and is my favorite thing to do with these fabulous 8x10 prints. Love that you can simply slip them inside a store-bought frame for an instant piece of art for your home. Or if you're feeling a bit more adventurous, the Art Prints are also perfect for deconstructing and layering for more detailed and three-dimensional pieces, like my shadowbox. Either way, you're going to love all the creative possibilities of these new prints.

I created my shadowbox as a gift for a friend, who fell in love with the quote from one of the Harmony Art Prints, and the butterfly patterned paper from the 12x12 papers. With just a bit of fussy cutting, and a few finishing accents, I was able to combine her favorites into one frame that will be perfect for dressing up her new art studio.

I took lots of photos of my steps to share with you. Here's all you need to do.

Start with the Life & Nature 8x10 Authentic Art Print, and one sheet of 12x12 patterned paper.

Using scissors or a craft knife, trim out the central frame and quote from the Art print. Cut the 12x12 patterned paper to size to fit your frame. In my case, I'm using an 8x8 shadowbox.

Accent the edge of the frame by adding color using ink pads and a wet paint brush.

After you have painted both of the outer frames of the Art Print, cut a panel of Foundation One Distressed Solid 12x12 paper just slightly larger than the print. Round all four corners using a corner rounder punch.

Using strong adhesive, like Therm O Web's SuperTape, adhere wide ribbon down the 8x8 patterned paper panel, just slightly to the left of center. Trim the bottom of the ribbon into a V-notch.

Adhere the Art Print panel to the background paper using foam adhesive for a bit of dimension.

Use a wet paintbrush and ink pad to color several butterflies from the Awakening 12x12 paper. Add a clear glaze dimensional adhesive over the top to give the butterflies a glossy finish. Then fussy cut the butterflies from the patterned paper.

It is way too hard to trim around the tiny antennae, so I went ahead and trimmed them out, and added new antennae using sewing thread bent into a V and adhered on the back side of the butterflies with tacky glue. Add another drop of tacky glue to just the center of the butterflies, and affix them to the Art Print.

Thread four black buttons and adhere them to the corners of the Art Print using tacky glue. Then slip your pretty print into a shadowbox frame.

Enjoy!

Using the new Art Prints from the Radiant paper collection made this layout go super quick!  Although I've used the Art Print quotes in a frame to decorate my office and to cover the front of a couple of notebooks (more great ideas!), I saw this particular quote and thought that it would be fun to create a layout around it – and I had the perfect selfie for it as well.  The Art Prints are available for a variety of the newer Authentique collections, are sized 8½˝ x 11˝ and have 8 to a package.

The base paper of this layout is Beaming, which ties into the entire sunshine theme.  I actually cut the quote out of the Art Print around the border, and then used the Smiling print (which is the same found on that particular Art Print) beneath it from a 12˝ x 12˝ sheet because I wanted it to go edge to edge.

Beneath the Art Print is a layered panel of (bottom to top) an edged strip of the Foundation One yellow paper topped the harlequin print from Sprightly which is embellished with ribbons and stickers from the Details Sticker sheet.

At the other end of this layer panel are more fun embellishments the Details Sticker and Components Paper Accents, along with the crazy selfie picture.  This layout only took minutes to complete thanks to the new Art Prints from the Radiant paper collection.
