Springtime "Treasure"
With Spring under way, it's time to freshen things up a bit with those lovely pastel and brighter color palettes! The flowers are starting to bloom and Easter is right around the corner. And what better way to introduce the new season than with the "Treasure" paper collection from Authentique! I find myself always wanting to create something fun for a home decor piece this time every year after doing some Spring cleaning around the house to brighten things up a little bit after a rainy and gray Seattle winter. And the colors and patterns in the "Treasure" collection are the perfect answer to get me in the mood for Spring.
Next month I'm going to be teaching a class at Jollene's Paperie in Southern California, and for one of the classes we're going to be using these awesome blank home decor pieces that are upcycled from old wood pallets. Since my home has lots of natural wood accents I thought that this would be the perfect base for a fun project. This is a quick and easy way to add some color to your wall or even to hang on the front door. Simply adhere your favorite "Treasure" papers to the wood, and then add some fun embellishments from the 'Enhancements' 12 x 12 and 'Components' 6 x 12 cardstock accents sheets.
Here's what I used to create these parts of the piece:
Block #1 'Darling' base with fussy cut Easter from the 'Enhancements' sheet
Block #2 'Divine' base with the Happy Spring egg from the 'Enhancements' sheet and small embellishments from the 'Components' sheets
Block #3 'Adorable' base with sentiment from the 'Enhancements' sheet and the bunny die cut from the 'Components' sheet
Block #4 'Adorable' base with fussy cut egg from the 'Enhancements' sheet and sentiment tab from the 'Components' sheet
Block #5 'Divine' base with the bunny fussy cut from the 'Enhancements' sheet and Hello Spring from the 'Components' sheets
Block #6 'Connected' base with a die cut frame from 'Cheery', embellished with die cuts from the 'Components' sheet
For finishing touches, I edged the sides of the paper pieces with IMAGINE Crafts inks (Memento Luxe and Radiant Neon) and used May Arts ribbon to hang the piece and embellish with bows. My personal preference is for the raw wood exposed on the sides, but you could most certainly finish the sides of the blocks with Memento Luxe ink. And because there are 6 blocks in total on this piece, you could simply cover each block with your favorite "Treasure" paper and then die cut large letters to spell E-A-S-T-E-R with one letter on each block – the possibilities are endless with this paper collection!
