Vintage Grunge with Angela from Bigmouth Scrappers!

I am Angela Medina, I work as the manager, designer, and instructor for Bigmouth Scrappers. There isn't a medium or product out there that I don't love to work with, but if I had to chose a favorite, it would be mixed media and distress. I love to teach people to step outside of their comfort zone and just do it! Mixed media is the perfect platform for exploring new ideas and techniques that many have not thought to do before.  I am also on the Cheryl Mezzetti, Perfect Paints Design Team. In addition to mixed media, you'll often find me creating 3D structures which I almost always love to "grunge" up. My passions are designing, teaching, and traveling, and I am blessed to be able to pursue all three at the same time!

I will be teaching my first "professional' booking, on a cruise to Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel, with Craftours.com , You still have time to sign up to join this rock star cast and myself for an amazing Mixed Media Crafting Adventure! Check it out at http://www.craftours.com/trips/caribbean-102015a.php

The Vintage Gas Station:
This was created partially from Laura Dennison's Gas Station Tutorial and I changed a few things. I used papers from Authentique's Durable Collection, Kaisercraft's Basecoat and metals from Prima,
Idea-ology and Industrial Chic.
I truly love Authentique's paper collections....but THIS one....they knocked it out of the park with Durable.  I can't stop creating with it! I love it so much, I had to order it twice for the store.

M is for My Guy
Vintage Vest Mini Album
I used papers from the Durable Collection from Authentique, along with journal cards. The "buttons" are Hitch Fasteners from Idea-ology. I just love this line and as soon as I saw the stripes, I knew it had to go on a vest to make a masculine mini album.

A little info on the store:

Bigmouth Scrappers is located in Forney, Texas, about 20 minutes east of Downtown Dallas. It is owned by Cynthia Sanders and we have been open since 2011. We started out as a tiny one room store not more than 400 sq ft and now we are over 5000 sq ft, with a 2000 sq ft crop room.  We are a Premier Store for Authentique and we carry other lines such as Graphic 45, Prima, Teresa Collins, Kaisercraft and many more.  We are not your "typical" scrapbook store...we are much more! It is a true artist's haven....at any given time we will have scrapbookers, quilters, crochet/knitters, mixed media/canvas artists and even cake decorators!  We even have 4 sewing machines set up to work on.

We are a little off the beaten path, but I promise worth the drive!  When you walk in, you have to look up, down and all around to catch every little detail. There are chicken nests on the wall and ladders hanging from the ceilings...you can walk through each room and see something you missed everytime.

We have classes every Saturday and this is our biggest year with big name designers like Jim "The Gentleman Crafter" Hankins, Frank Garcia, Cheryl Mezzetti, Jen Starr, Limor Weber, Jamie Dougherty, Carol Winger and Lance Anderson.

We also have the Ruby Rose Retreat across the street....so if you are out of the area, come hang out with us for a weekend and stay there. It has 3 bedrooms that sleeps 6 people and it looks like something out of Country Living Magazine....but cuter! It's decorated in linens, burlaps and laces. There are custom crop tables there or you can come across the street to the store and hang out there.

Since it's the weekend, let's do a fun "Durable" giveaway! For your chance  to win, leave a nice comment for Angela here on this post. Also, be sure to grab our "Durable" icon and share on facebook and instagram! If we see you "wearing" it on your profile, that doubles your chances of winning!

  3. Very creative masculine project. I would have to scrap lift it if my dad was still alive, it would have been perfect. I, too, love the Durable line. Your store intrigues me. I love the idea of sewing machines at the ready. I will stop by if I am ever anywhere nearby. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Laura,
Thank you! This is awesome...you're a rock star to me. I've learned so much from your tutorials.
I love this paper so much....it's hard to find good vintage masculine paper and even harder to find good brick paper. The scale on this brick is perfect for those buildings. I cant wait to see your bookstore.
      Thank you again!

  13. LOVE this project!! It is just faboulous! You are so very talented! I live near Dallas and just love the store! I was just in there last week to pick up a kit because I had missed the class. As always, you and the other ladies were so very kind and helpful! I think I'm going to spend NSD with you guys (if there is still room!).

Congratulations on your first "professional" booking! Hope you have a great time and lots of fun on the cruise!

So many great teachers coming too. wish we had someplace like it in Illinois. I love the gas station. I have a miniature Santa's North Pole and enjoy seeing miniature houses. thanks for sharing.
