Vintage-inspired Americana poppers using Honor

Design team member Hilary is sharing one of our most popular projects using our Honor collection.

I love this time of year!  I so love to create patriotic crafts, they just give me such a sense of pride and nothing makes me feel more honored than to create in celebration of America.  This latest collection from Authentique Paper is called, "Honor", and it's probably my most favorite patriotic line of all time.

With the 4th of July rapidly approaching and with the celebration of Memorial Day, honoring all our heroes here and abroad, I decided to create some vintage inspired "Poppers" that would be the talk of your party or get together.  To make the poppers, I used the Popper die from Brenda Walton for Sizzix along with my Big Shot die cutting machine.

Poppers are so fun to create, and to receive.  You fill the center with a small gift, perhaps some candy or even some dollar bills, or even roll up a small American Flag.  The possibilities are endless.

I just love the ends of these poppers as well.  I added some crepe paper fringe, which you can easily purchase, but I chose to make my own, by layering 5 strips of red crepe paper, then machine stitch down the side through all the layers, finally snipping with a pair of scissors every 1/4" or so up to the stitch line, and that's it.  So easy to do.  Then before you roll up your popper, lay a bead of hot glue along the end, and lay your fringe down.  After you roll it up, scrunch it in your hands.

I also found some really pretty burlap americana ribbon that matched this collection perfectly, so I added that before gluing down the medallion.

Tie a small tag from the sticker sheet with twine.

And to finish, I adhered vintage silver tinsel between to paper rosettes and glued on a large mirrored star on top.
I adore these poppers and they are as fun to give away as they are to make.

I hope I've inspired you to create some of your own.
