Stitches Flip Folio and Altered Frame with Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  It's Kathy here to share my very favorite new release of 2018!  I grew up in a home where the sewing machine (and the percolator!) were always plugged in.  Some of my happiest childhood memories took place as I sat by my mom's side while she sewed furiously on her vintage White sewing machine.  How I loved to hear the motor hum and watch the needle dart in and out of the fabric.  So you can imagine how thrilled I was when Authentique released their gloriously vintage "Stitches" collection.  Today I have a really fun Stitched with Love Flip Folio and video to share with you.  I had so much fun with this collection, that I couldn't put it away, so I made a lovely altered frame for the sewing area of my studio.  There's a Snapguide tutorial to go with that project, showing you how to create a super quick and fabulous crackle effect on a $1 wood frame from the craft store.

How to Create a Quick and Easy Crackled Stitches Frame

With Mother's Day right around the corner, this 8" x 10" altered frame would be a great addition to Mom's sewing room.  Or my sewing room, for that matter!

I worked with the 12" x 12" Collection Kit, Distress Paints and....Elmer's Glue!  Yep!  Good old Elmer's Glue and Distress paint create a fabulous crackle effect for mere pennies.  It's so easy and super fast, too!

Machine stitching, ribbon, flowers, buttons and trinkets from my stash are combined with the papers and a lovely heart shaped die.  (Links in supply list below.)

Here's the Snapguide tutorial that will show you how to create the frame.  Enjoy!

Stitched with Love Flip Folio

Next, I created this shabbylicious 7.25" x 5.25" flip folio.  There are so many wonderful images to fussy cut in the Stitches collection, but I had to use this vintage dress form on the cover!

I created a reinforced spine by adding a layer of Authentique Antique Lace Spectrum Cardstock over the cardstock layer below.  This stuff is so sturdy, and folds like a dream!  I added some die cut eyelet lace using this same sheet of Spectrum Cardstock.

The folio is filled with pockets, inserts, tuck spots and lots of fun flaps!

The 3x4 journal cards in this collection are especially fun!

And these button cards were just begging to be dressed up with some buttons from my stash!

You'll get a better feel for the flow and function of this folio in this short YouTube video.  I hope you enjoy!

I hope I've inspired you to break out your Authentique "Stitches" collection and create something beautiful.

May your bobbin always be full!

Cheerio,
kathy
