Surviving Winter with Solitude

Hello, Friends!  Well, it's January, and Winter is King!  This is the perfect weather for staying indoors and crafting.  To help you survive the harsh winter weather, I've cooked up a little Winter Survival Kit made with gorgeous papers from the Solitude Collection Kit.

Winter is prime time for colds and flu...and the blues.  This little Winter Greetings Survival Kit is designed to cheer the winter weary soul, starting with the gorgeous image of these winter birds on the cover.

Fancy fold cards are so much fun to make.  I altered this popular design by adding 1" spines and a fun box style pocket on the inside.

The basic card design is a 5" x 5" card tucked inside a 6" x 6" card.  Super easy to make, but very impressive to open!  I've enhanced the cover with a cheesecloth layer, a fancy die cut, some pretty winter flowers and berries and a silky ribbon tie closure.

You'll  also learn how to make the clever box style pocket/survival kit.

I've filled the pocket with some tissues, lip balm and hand cream.  That takes care of the outside of you.  To warm you up inside, I added a tea bag and honey stick.  This makes a great get well card!

 Solitude Winter Survial Kit Cutting Guide

For the 6" x 6" card base:

• 13" x 6" panel of brown cardstock (you can join two panels of cardstock together with Scor-Tape.)
  • Score this panel at 3" , 6" and 7"
• Cut mats from designer paper:
  • 5 7/8" x 5 7/8"  (2)
  • 2 7/8" x 5 7/8" (4)
  • Spine 7/8" x 5 7/8" (2)

For the 5" x 5" card base:

• 11" x 5" panel of brown cardstock
  • Score this at 5" and 6"
• Cut mats from designer paper
  • 4 7/8" x 4 7/8" (3)
  • 7/8" x 4 7/8" (2)

For the box pocket:

• 8" x 4" panel of brown cardstock
  • Score on long side at 1", 2", 6", 7"
  • Score on short side at 2", 3"
• To cover the finished pocket
  • 5 7/8" x 1 7/8" panel of designer paper scored on long side at 1", 4 7/8"
  • 4 7/8" x 7/8" panel to line the bottom of the box
