Guest Designer: Tessa Buys

Today we have a special treat for you! Not too long ago, we were flipping through one of our favorite crafty magazines, and we spotted a real gem. We have seen Tessa Buys work before and have been a fan for quite a while, but when we saw a stunning mini album created with some of our product that she recently had published, we knew we wanted her to guest design for us! We think that you all will agree, Tessa is a real talent and we know you will love what she has created for today!
I am a happy mother to three energetic boys and wife to a fantastic, supportive husband. We live in Northern California, where I work as a professional dancer, teacher and choreographer. When not in the studio, I am in my craft room designing with everything from paper to fabric. Besides creating for my Etsy shop, Precocious Paper, I enjoy working for scrapbook companies, clubs and shops. You can find my work in Scrapbook Trends, Create Idea Books, Creating Keepsakes, and more. I love blue, but have a serious crush on yellow. I secretly enjoy being the only girl in my household and love all things floral and vintage. I am very grateful for this opportunity to guest design for Authentique!

The Fourth of July is my favorite holiday! Although I have layouts of our 2011 Independence Day, I wanted to put all of our favorite photos into a mini album. The Pride collection was perfect for this!

The base of the album is a 4x6 wood album. I added additional pages by adhering 4x6 pieces of patterned paper together.

Besides the Pride collection, I added gold star washi tape, gold star sequins, doilies (inspired by the Assemble paper), and wood veneer stars. I loved how easy the papers were to mix and match. I played with  all sorts of combinations as I put each page spread together and usually decided upon pairing a lively pattern with a more subtle pattern. The beautiful texture of the paper allowed me to sand the edges of each page for a soft, white-core finish. My favorite details are the stickers. The tiny word stickers were fun to use as photo captions, and the larger stickers made great embellishments when layered and popped up on dimensional adhesive. I completed the album by spray-painting a pair of binder rings gold and affixing them to my book. Now my family can see all of our memories from that day in one, beautiful place.
