Wishing I was "Abroad" Wall Hanging
I love when I can find things around the house to alter and make beautiful. Even better when they are gifts and free!! This (now) wonderful wall hanging uses Authentique's amazing new Abroad Collection. I just love that I can now look at this beauty and hang my keys, dreaming about all of the beautiful places that I could visit in the world.
Can you believe that this pretty thing once had it's life as this...
I was super lucky to find out that what I thought was a painting, really was a piece of watercolor paper, and was able to remove it easily. I used that shape to cut my insert paper from Travel, and left the cream paint as it matched the cream in the Abroad Collection papers.
I also yanked out the knobs, and put them aside until I could put the whole thing back together. To mark where they came from, I marked the bottom of the wall hanging with a pencil, knowing that I was going to cover the green paint with paper.
Once I got the shaped paper right, I used my Xyron 9" Creative Station to turn the paper into a sticker, and was able to place it in the space easily. I then placed a piece of Expedition through my Xyron, and placed it onto the front of the hanging, using a craft knife to trim the edges. I cut strips of Expedition, and repeated the process until all of the mint green was covered.
Once it was all covered, I lightly sanded the paper edges, making sure that there were no pieces that stuck out. I then used my Distress Ink in Frayed Burlap to cover the white edges, and give the piece a more vintage feel. I then stapled the ribbon to the back of the wooden piece, then tied a pretty bow using some May Arts ribbon. Lastly, I added a sentiment from the Titles and Phrases Cardstock Die Cuts. To finish off the hanging, I added a few pieces from my collection including: Petaloo flowers, Petaloo Hat Pin, and UmWow chipboard.
